010. Haymitch made so many 'bun in the oven' jokes when Katniss was pregnant the first time that she banned him from the house and refused to see him until after the baby was born. He knew better the second time, when she threatened him with bodily harm the first time he opened his mouth.
#64 In the darkest moments, Peeta would think of one memory: Katniss crying out his name without hesitation after the rule change in the first arena. Every time he thought of it, he was brought straight back to the moment that it had happened: He was lying in mud, pain coursing through his entire body when he had heard the Capitols announcement. His dehydrated and pain-ridden brain had been unable to process this rule fully but he had understood one thing – a voice, her voice, calling out his name. And finally, for that brief moment, he had allowed himself to hope.
“No! Just don’t, Katniss!” His grip tightens, hurting my hand, and there’s real anger in his voice. “Don’t die for me. You won’t be doing me any favours. All right?”
“Maybe I did it for myself, Peeta, did you ever think of that? Maybe you aren’t the only one who…who worries about…what it would be like if…”
I’m not as smooth with words as Peeta. And while I was talking, the idea of actually losing Peeta hit me again and I realised how much I don’t want him to die. And it’s not about the sponsors. And it’s not about what will happen back home. And it’s not just that I don’t want to be alone. It’s him. I do not want to lose the boy with the bread.”—The Hunger Games, page 362 (via wild-blessed-freedom)
“This is the first kiss that we’re both fully aware of. Neither of us hobbled by sickness or pain or simply unconsciousness. Our lips neither burning with fever or icy cold. This is the first kiss where I actually feel a stirring inside my chest. Warm and curious. This is the first kiss that makes me want another.”—The Hunger Games, page 362 (via wild-blessed-freedom)
#61 On the night that Katniss had told Peeta about himself after he had been hijacked, he started a list of his own in his mind: "She's a hunter. She's a fighter. She cares most in the world about her little sister. She knows which berries are poisonous. She hunts in the woods. She saved my life. She likes cheese buns. She bought her sister a goat. I loved her. I think that maybe I still do".
